I made this cake for my son Elias’s 2 birthday. His nickname is Eli, and I found myself shortening even that to just “E.” So when his birthday was approaching I decided to make him a cake in honor of his nickname and initial.
This was the first time I had used fondant to decorate a cake so I started off pretty simple. I made two over sized layers and frosted with light blue butter cream. Then I cut a large “e” out of white fondant, and a smaller one out of brown and put them together. I formed little white fondant balls around the top edge. For the polka dots on the side, I pushed chocolate kisses with the pointy side in, into the frosting.
