Guitar Cake

My husband loves the video game Rock Band for his PlayStation 3. His friends were coming to visit from out of state for his birthday, and we decided to throw him a surprise party. My gift to him, an awesome surprise guitar cake.

I took his actual guitar controller, traced it out on paper, and figured out what I would need to make it up. I started first by making his frosting ‘stickers.’ I put the image of what I wanted under parchment paper and traced it out with royal icing. I let them set in the fridge.

The cake itself is just 3 boxes of yellow cake mix, carved out using the paper stencil. I covered it with fondant, and added gum paste pieces for the knobs and whammy bar.

It took me 2 weeks to get everything ready without his knowledge. He was completely surprised and loved it.
