Homemade Castle and Carriage Ride 5th Birthday Cake

For my daughter 5th birthday we had a whole Princess castle theme. I got the idea from looking at the castle on her plates and napkins I had purchased for her party, they were my inspiration for the whole cake! I used two round cakes, one large and one medium, and when it was done actually cut it in half and stacked it so one side looked like a round cake with two layers and other side was flat.

The flat side was the castle side. I used hand cut out sugar cookies for the columns on the side and for the door. I used purple icing with a darker purple drew in the bricks. The flowers are made out of starburst which I melted in the microwave for about ten seconds and molded myself, kinda time consuming, but worth it when you see how cute they look, plus the kids loved them. I added m&m’s for the cobble stone and edging. On the top I wrote Happy Birthday Lily!

The rounded side of the cake was in two layers, the bottom layer was argyle pink triangles and gumballs in the middle and some more starburst flowers places here and there. The second layer was a drawn out hill scape and road, just done out of frosting (haven’t learned to used fondant yet)! Then I added a sugar cookie carriage that I had also had just carved out myself.

To add a little more flare I used a crown for the top and added butterflied and wands to the cake.

It was kinda like two cakes in one and so much fun to make!
