My granddaughter picked this cake out of the grocery store catalog, but I didn’t want to pay more than $25 when I knew I could make it myself. I found the Hula Till You Drop decorations online, bought aerosol spray coloring, and simply made it looks like the picture on the decoration package – which was identical to the grocery store image.
My granddaughter, who turned 9 on her birthday, couldn’t tell it didn’t come from the bakery (of course I could – it isn’t perfect), it tasted great, and it was made with love. I probably still spent $20 on it because of the aerosol sprays, but it was worth it, and I bought those with weekly discount coupons at Michael’s and Hobby Lobby. For me, it isn’t about perfection – it’s about having fun making something special for a child.
