This cake was for a joint birthday party, and I decided to tie them together by using one tier for each theme. The little boy loved Cars, so that was the theme for his tier, and the top was for his sister, a princess theme.
Wilton sugar sheets were used to create the checkerboard effect on the bottom, with the emblem made out of fondant and the name hand-piped. The top tier was covered in white fondant, and the stitching tool was used to create the pillow-like effect. A silver dragee was placed where each line of stitching crossed another. The pink crown was made ahead of time, and placed over the side of a bottle to let it dry in a rounded shape. The letters for her name and the number were the finishing touches.
