My daughter is a very big fan of Hello Kitty. I have made a Hello Kitty birthday cake before with templates I found on the internet, however her school requests that only cupcakes or single serve foods are sent in for birthdays.
I searched everywhere for a Hello Kitty kids cupcake ideas or a Hello Kitty cookie cutter and was unable to find one. We have lots of Hello Kitty items around the house, so I cut out a Hello Kitty (head only) from a calendar. I tried to find one that was the size of a muffin-size cake top.
I simply covered this with contact paper and used it as my template. I purchased white fondant, rolled this out and with a sharp knife cut all 39 Hello Kitty heads out. I used mini M&M’s (split in half to get oblong shape) for the eyes and nose. I dyed some of the fondant pink and used a flower shape cutter to put by her ear. For the centre of the flower, a mini M&M.
After assembling these, I made the cupcakes (just basic chocolate cake recipe) and iced them with butter cream icing, dyed pink. Then placed the Hello Kitty heads on top. I finished by making black royal icing to pipe on the whiskers.
My daughter absolutely loved them. They really were so easy to do and looked fabulous (you can add these to a Hello Kitty birthday cake you make if you need more cake).
