The theme of my son’s 4th birthday was Kung Fu Panda. I always make my own birthday cakes and began searching the internet to gather inspiration. Everyone from young kids to adults alike went nuts over this cake….and it was incredibly EASY. First I baked two 9 inch round cakes, I used box cake mix. After the cakes cooled I stacked them using milk chocolate frosting in the middle and on the cakes. I then took pretzel rods, cutting maybe an inch or less off the end of each and placed them upright around the frosted cake. The pretzels were meant to be ‘bamboo’. On our cake I left a small gap in the pretzel rods, I wish I could say it was creative genius at work but really….it was a mistake. I’d run out of pretzels, in the end the unintentional opening appeared to be the entrance to an arena :) As for the Kung Fu Panda characters, I had purchased a set of happy meal toys from Ebay. Very cheap and the characters were the perfect size to use on the cake. I placed Po, Master Shifu, Tigress, Viper, Mantis, Crane and Monkey, on top and around the cake. **Not pictured- to finish off the cake I used CakeMate celebration sprinkles and added them to the ‘entrance’ of the arena and around the outside of the cake for a touch of color.** FYI this cake was very heavy so use a strong cake board. The kids loved pulling the pretzel rods off the cake and eating them. Enjoy!
Great cake!
