My daughter wanted a Littlest Pet Shop cake, but I thought it would be cuter and more unique to use “real Pet Shops” instead of the ones that the store-bought cakes use. I wanted to find a set that she didn’t have, so I got the salon set & made it into a bathtime theme. I used glass marbles for the bubbles, which I had planned on using all over. But because of my (almost) 3 year old, I figured less of a choking hazard, the better! I think the overflow of bubbles was a cute addition & the girls loved having the marbles to play with.
This was my first attempt with fondant – whew! I found a “homemade marshmallow fondant” recipe online & just had to try it. It was a little difficult, but great practice & turned out pretty cute. It wasn’t perfect, but with lots of icing, no one notices the imperfections! The fondant made a smooth service to work on, & the girls loved how it would spring back when the animals “bounced” on it. :) I think the fondant also made the cake more moist & yummy by sealing in the freshness.
It was lots of fun to make & now my (almost) 3 year old wants her “Littlest Pet Shop” cake, too. I can’t wait to make it! Thanks, everybody on this site for providing ideas for inspiration!!! This is where I got all of my ideas from! :)
