My daughter has a Halloween birthday so we sent this fun millipede cake to school with her. I covered the tray with green frosting and pulled it up in tuffs to simulate grass then added a little chocolate sprinkles for accent. 21 chocolate cupcakes were lined up in a winding millipede body. I cut the top from another cupcake and added it onto the head to make it bigger. (This was my daughter’s piece.)
We used chocolate frosting and brown sprinkles as a base then decorated it with white frosting stripes and alternating colors of Nerds. Red string candy served as legs antennae and the mouth. We found it easiest to first make the hole with a skewer before inserting the string. The ends of the antennae got chocolate tips and the mouth ended in small pieces of red string.
The eyes were a mini marshmallow cut in half. Brown sprinkles were pushed into the eyes long-ways to make pupils. The nose is a Skittle. These cupcakes were so popular that we had trouble even making it to my daughter’s classroom.
