This lady came to me one day with a picture of a Smurf House cake that she had found on Google, and she asked me if I could make it for her daughter’s birthday. I had never made any 3D cakes before, but I couldn’t loose this client, so I didn’t even think, I just blurted out “SURE, NO PROBLEM”. I had no idea what to do! I spent a whole week watching videos on You Tube on how to make Smurfs out of fondant and how to cover Styrofoam with fondant.
The little sleep I got, I dreamt with SMURFS! It was terrible! I made the Smurf house out of Styrofoam (my husband helped me with the carving) and covered it in fondant (took me forever). I then decided to only make Smurfette completely and make the other Smurfs looking out of the windows (only the heads). It took me about a week to get it all together, but at the end I was very pleased with the result. My client was so in love with it that she decided not to give out any cake at her daughter’s party. She set the cake as decoration and saved it for themselves!
