For my youngest daughter’s 5th birthday she wanted everything to be rainbow. So I went to your website and got a few ideas, combined a few and some of my own and a rainbow cake was formed.
I baked a 1/2 sheet cake pan and 12 cupcakes. Also baked 2 9″ round cakes. For the cake batter -I decided I wanted that to also have a rainbow look to it so I put 5-6 small bowls out and put white batter in each one, then added the food coloring and mixed.
I made purple, blue, red/pink, green, & yellow. Then I put the rest of the white cake batter in each pan. Then by spoonfuls added the colors onto the white batter. After added all the colored batter I took a knife and cut into the batter to swirl -don’t swirl too many times or your rainbow cake will look like a rain cloud…! Then baked them..
Frosted the 1/2 sheet cake with blue and then cut one of the 9″ cakes in half. My 1st 9″ cake did not come out of the cake pan in one piece…so thankfully I had made a 2nd cake…i put the 2 halves together and set them on top of the 1/2 sheet cake..used some cake sticks to keep it stable and then frosted it. Then I used skittles on the rainbow…Have to work fast because icing likes to dry on you.
Then for the clouds cupcakes just frosted them white and added marshmallows to the top of them. It was truly fun making this cake. And the look on my daughter’s face was worth all the time!!!
