I have an 8 year old daughter who just loves music. She thinks she is a rock star. Her birthday was on Thanksgiving and I couldn’t think of a cake theme to give her because of all the other foods that were gonna get prepared that day. So she had stuck a sign on her door that said “Girls Rock” in crayon. LOL, so I thought why not try to make a guitar cake. I searched on line for directions and got a template for it from Betty Crocker. I watched a how to video and thought okay I can do this.
Once I started cutting out the shape of the cake it was so most that I ended up using the icing as paste because it was falling apart on me. So once I got a crumb coat on and it was sealed in the freezer for a bit, I thought the fun part would be the decorating. It was…. but it was also very messy. I was trying so hard to mix food coloring to all the icing so I didn’t have to spend so much money on different color icing. I had food coloring all over my fingers and hands.
All in all it was a hit. I looked all over for different candies to put on the cake to give it the details it needed. Dots, and Red Hots were used. I improvised with what I had on hand.
The girls loved it and couldn’t believe I made a electric guitar cake. The rest of the party was really cute as they dressed up and had blow up guitars and micro phone and boas. It really showed that girls really did ROCK!
