I baked this cake for my mum’s birthday she has a very big sweet tooth and i wanted to make her a cake special to her. So i thought of all her favourite sweets to add as decoration and she loves it when i cover my cakes with buttercream.
The cake itself is made of two layer of vanilla sponge and sandwiched together with plenty of buttercream. i found the best way to get a level cake without having to cut with a knife is; the minute you take cake out of the oven if there is a dome press down lightly onto cake with paper towel as this lets out trapped air causing the dome.
To decorate the cake i coloured the cream pink and added all her favourite sweets, to make the ice cream cones i made seperate fairy cakes and stuffed the cones then using a piping nozzle i piped buttercream around to look like soft whip ice cream and cut a flake bar into three and placed a third in each cone to look like a 99 cone.
My mum loved the cake and enjoyed eating it even more :).
