This Spongebob birthday cake was really simple to make. I baked an 8×8 cake and then drew Spongebob’s face, shirt and tie, pants and belt with a toothpick on the cake before outlining everything with black icing (chocolate icing with black coloring). I used a regular star tip depending on how big the space was. Use larger star tips to cover the larger areas (the yellow part) smaller star tips for the areas like the eyes.
I piped stars around the entire cake to give it that raised effect. If you want to take a shorter route, ice the entire cake with regular buttercream (white) icing and only draw on the top portion of the cake.
This Spongebob cake required several different colored icings including the following: yellow, black, blue, red, pink, brown (two different tints- light brown for the inside of the mouth and dark brown for the pants.
This was a birthday cake for a co-workers little girl. Everyone really enjoyed the appearance of the cake.

I love the way this cake looks. It is awesome. You have given me an idea for my 3 year old’s birthday cake. I think I can do this?? Just trying to figure out how I’m going to get that pic on the cake. I can’t draw.
