I made this Sweet Strawberry Shortcake birthday cake for my daughter’s 1st birthday party. I used a vanilla cake with a blend of Strawberry sundae topping, cream cheese, Marshmallow fluff, and Cool whip for the filling. It was completely yummy! I am pleased to say that this cake required NO FONDANT and I far preferred working without it! I used good old Decorator’s Butter cream and a new recipe for Scuptable Buttercream that was used for the smooth pink top and the green stripes.
Being a busy, working Mom, I made the strawberries, blossoms, and Strawberry Shortcake character ahead of time out of Wilton Candy Melts. The character was traced over a coloring page placed in a large Ziploc bag (the finished product came away from the bag very easily . The strawberries were made with a simple heart mold with added seeds and leaves.
In a momentousness lack of forethought, I decided to add a Candy Melt base to Strawberry Shortcake. I stood her up in a puddle of the Candy, not thinking about the fact that the puddle was warm… Did you notice that she has no feet! (Melted right off… won’t do that again)
Not one person in attendance noticed that she was leaning a little and lacking in one area… everyone was simply delighted by the cake!
