Hi, my name is Gayla,I am 29 and I am a self-taught cake decorator, I have been making cakes since 2003.
So my sister called and said that my nieces want a “crooked cake”, I laughed, but agreed so long as she helped. I had never tried to make a cake like this so we got on the internet and searched ’tilted cakes’.
Eventually we found a website www.cakecentral.com. The site had clear and simple step by step instructions. We did skip a few steps and learned that there was alot of wasted cake.
I uploaded a pic of the cake showing that each section is the same size… the bottom section is a 10″ (3) second section 8″ (3) top is 6″(3).
We baked 3 cakes of each size but once we started cutting we realized that the circle cut out of the bottom layer could be used for the middle layer and the same for the middle to top This is where we waisted alot cake.
As far as the ‘zebra stripes’,circles and diamonds, Fondant was used – the diamonds are actually squares. You cant really see it in the pics but on the shapes we added edible glitter, I think that was a waste of time and money myself.
All in all it was actually easier to make than it looks.
Hope y’all enjoy this as much as I did.
Happy Baking and God Bless
