I was thinking about throwing a big party for my soon-to-be 15 yr old son Thomas, aka Thommen, for a long time. When I asked his opinion about the food he wanted for his party, he didnt even hesitate, “Mom, you know me… pizza with every topping!!!”
“OK”, I said with a big smile on my face and I walked away. He just gave me the answer to the biggest question I had been facing from the first day of party planning- a theme for his cake!
On the day before his big birthday party, I patiently waited for him to go out with his friends so I could start the cake. Soon after making the cake, I thought it needed some more fun. What’s more fun than making it gravity defying? :D
I cut out one slice from the cake and made it stand on a cardboard stand, added more fondant “cheese” to make it look realistic… oh, yeah! Mmmm… it looked great.
Then, I incorporated a ketchup bottle into the cake to make it stand out more.
After finishing the cake, I was very happy, but I was dying inside to see my son’s reaction when I presented the cake.
When my son returned with his friends, I opened the door and the first thing he saw was the cake on the table. He said, “Ma, you are the best. I am so hungry and I am craving for a pizza.”
After 2 seconds he was like, “WHAAATTTT? Is this a CAKE?” His mouth was wide open and he was very happy to show off his cake to all his friends. They were all so happy to see the cake too and I am pretty sure that I will cherish that moment for the rest of my life.
The party was a BIG success and everybody enjoyed the food (of course, pizza!) and the “Pizza Cake” even more!
