This tranquil garden cake was made for a co-worker who is an avid gardener. The cake is made of 2 sheet cakes, and covered in butter cream frosting. The walkway, pond lining and birds are fondant. The other accents are candy melts. Everything is edible! This was the “before” photo. Just before it was presented, the “water” was added (corn syrup tinted blue).
The frog in the pond is molded candy melt attached to a pretzel to raise it above the water like it was floating on the lilypad. I lined the pond with fondant so the “water” would stay in and not soak into the cake. I usually like to work in fondant, but most people don’t like to EAT fondant–so most of this cake is frosting. Some hard core cake decorators don’t like molded candy on their cakes, but I love my candy molds!
I am self taught, so there is really no method to my madness–I just try to make it pretty! I love looking at the other cakes for inspiration!
