This was my first time making a diaper cake. I made it for my sister’s baby shower. She did my twin nephew’s nursery in Winnie The Pooh theme so i matched that theme with the diaper cake.
I used 2 different sizes of diapers. the bigger size, 3, for the bottom tier and the smaller size, 2, for the top tiers. You simply roll each diaper and put an elastic around it. Make sure to have the elastic sit right in the middle of each diaper so the ribbon you eventually tie around all of the diapers covers the elastics completely.
Once you roll all of the diapers you can start building the bottom tier by just standing up a few diapers in the middle and just keep adding more diapers around until you get the thickness you want for the bottom tier. I had some help from my Mom with this next step. Have one person hold the tier of diapers together while you wrap a piece of ribbon around it and tie it off, securing the whole tier tightly. Be sure to cover all of the elastics on the outer edge with the ribbon. And that’s basically it.
Just repeat the above for the second and third tiers, using the smaller diapers and less of them to make the overall tier smaller.
I secured Pooh on top with 2 elastics, one on each leg, wrapped around a diaper below. Tigger was not secured on. I simply sat him on the edge of the base. The base was just a plastic platter tray lined with mini doilies.
I love diaper cakes and plan on doing many more, especially after seeing all of the amazing ones on this website!
