My friend’s daughter was turning 5 and she wanted to make her a doll’s cake. I simply love these sort of cakes and since I saw her a bit worried on how she could do it, I offered to do it for her, an offer which she accepted immediately!. She told me that her daughter’s favourite colours were pink and purple.
Since she was going to have about 30 people for the party, I did 2 cakes for this Barbie Ball Cake. One round 30cm cake and the other one in a large Pyrex bowl, of course for the doll’s gown.
First I sliced the round cake in 3 layers and spread buttercream between each layer and on the outside.
Then I covered it with pink sugarpaste. Then I sliced the other cake in three layers as well and repeated the buttercream procedure for it as well. I did a hole in the middle in order to insert the doll in it and positioned it on top of the round cake. I rolled a layer of pink sugarpaste around the doll’s upper body for her corset and attached a sweet little sugarflower in the middle.
I prepared some royal icing and tinted half of it pink and the other half purple and started to pipe star shapes all around the skirt and alternating the colours aech time. Finally I placed a nice ribbon with some flowers on it all around the round cake and did some more piping all around it just above the ribbon and I also placed some dragees on the piped icing trail.
I can assure you the cake was very appreciated by everybody, especially the birthday girl of course!.
